6 STEPS HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PERFECT COMFY SOFA
If you are looking for a comfy sofa for your home, office, hotel or other interior space, this article is dedicated to this much desired piece of furniture. Like a mattress, convenience, comfort and impeccable quality are key factors when purchasing one. Whether you are looking for a comfy sofa for sleeping, a nice sofa for the living room or a sofa for another space, know that it should serve you for a long time. Fortunately or not, quality sofas also come with a certain price, which will definitely be worth it if you choose quality over compromising for something mediocre.
So, let me give an example from the real life. Imagine, how you come home after a hard working day and all you want is to relax with your favorite drink in hand. And it will be even better if you have a comfy sofa in your cozy living room, right? Or going to the office or on a relaxing weekend in a hotel, to have a place to sit comfortably for a nice talk with friends or colleagues.
I believe that each of us has experienced the difference between the feeling of sitting on a comfy sofa and an uncomfortable sofa. So, if you are planning a renovation, refresh or just want to replace the old sofa with a new one, sit down, enjoy your favorite drink, the next lines are for you!

COMFORT AND SHAPE
In each of my projects, and believe me, they are quite diverse, there has not been a client who did not tell me: “I want a comfy sofa”. “And what does a comfortable sofa even mean to you?”, I always ask. And then comes the moment in this question, like, “Do you have back and lower back problems?” “How much time do you spend on the sofa”? “Use the sofa for sleeping”? If you think about it, these are the three main questions you should think about when choosing a comfy sofa.
So, some explain to you in more detail, with real examples. Why you need to pay special attention when choosing your sofa. In the sense of this article, anatomical means comfort. Comfort on its side would mean one thing to me and another to you. I’ll give you a exact example: I had a client who even before we started with the interior design concept said to me: “Eliza, I only need one thing and that is: The sofa in the living room must be hard and at least 90 cm deep”. It turned out that my client had serious back problems and also spent his evenings in front of the TV in the living room.
Another client from Oxford, England, who did a living room remodeling project, shared that their family consisted of two adults and three small children and spent most of their time at home in front of the TV (we totally understand, given the Island’s climate). My proposal was to furnish the living room with a comfy sofa and a foot stool, manufactured in full density high elasticity 35 density HR foam for the seat, which is extremely resistant to pressure and use, and full density goose feather back cushions for comfort and relaxation. .
The two examples above make it clear what anatomical means, right?
Anatomical means comfort! Your comfy sofa should follow the curves of your body so that you don’t want to get up from it. The filling should meet your density and firmness/softness requirements. As basic guidelines for this are: if you like firm to soft seating, you should choose a foam/foam filling with a density of no less than 30 – 35. If you like softness and the feeling of a fluffy cloud, then your choice should undoubtedly be the stuffing of feathers.
A COMY SOFA OR JUST A SOFA?
Undoubtedly, sofas are one of the main elements on every interior. We can admire them, enjoy them, show them to friends and acquaintances. From my many years of experience as an interior designer, I prefer to bet on custom-made furniture from well-established manufacturers with time-proven quality. I have always maintained that the role of the interior designer is to create unique spaces tailored to the client’s requirements, not copy-paste.
Very often in my practice, when my clients have higher requirements, such as the examples above, I use Belcaro furniture. Exceptional quality, proven professionals, time-tested furniture. The main services of this manufacturer are that each sofa could be produced to an individual size, a choice of full and over 2500 upholstery (with a special cigarette resistant cover, which is mandatory when selling the furniture in the UK), including natural and artificial leather. In conclusion: Convenience is important, don’t neglect it! Choose a high-quality, comfy sofa that you will enjoy for a long time!
COMFORT OR DESIGN?
Let’s go to the question: What is the most comfy sofa and how to recognize it? There is no exact rule for a comfy sofa. What is comfortable for you is perfect. On your back, on your body shapes. However, one thing is certain – the perfect comfy sofa must be made of high-quality materials and have an excellent design.
When we furnish the home or any other space, I think about a thousand things – the color of the walls, the style of each room, the distribution of the furniture, its functionality, etc. However, a comfy sofa emerges as the most important piece of furniture at home, as it is often the place, where we want to feel as comfortable as possible.
It should provide an interior with design and colors, but apart from this sofa it should provide comfort and functionality as it is suitable for all members of the family. It can have many different shapes, fills and upholstery and be easy to clean. However, how do we choose the most suitable sofa to become our favorite piece of furniture?
And since the best examples are from practice, I would like to share my personal impressions of the Italian sofa manufacturer Divanidea, which, in my opinion, meets 100% the criteria for comfort and design.
I was working on a project for interior design and implementation of a large apartment in Bulgaria. My clients have been living in Italy for many years, but they bought a flat in the country for which they hired me to create the interior of their dreams. So… I won’t go into detail about the interior and furnishings of the other rooms, but will focus on the living room and specifically the sofa.
We chose a modern style for the interior concept of the entire apartment. The living room, kitchen and dining room were open plan with an area of about 60 m2. The customer’s requirement is to offer them a large, comfortable sofa with a non-standard design. After a long walk around various furniture stores, my clients and I agreed that Divanidea’s Moss model was the perfect sofa for them. As you can see in the pictures below, the model consists of two separate parts that you can place in any position you want. The most impressive for me were the removable backrests, which at first glance seem unstable and uncomfortable, but believe me, this sofa combines everything you want from your designer comfy sofa.
WHAT SIZE SHOULD A COMFY SOFA BE?
Choosing the right fabric and color is an important part of choosing a comfy sofa. This will build the final look of the living room and transform the interior. Since you will be spending a large part of your time on your comfy sofa, I strongly recommend that you consider the concept of the interior from the beginning.
Match the sofa with the rest of the interior, such as carpet, wall color, curtains, furniture, etc.
Choosing the right upholstery depends on whether you have pets and small children. In such a case, it is good to choose an upholstery that is durable and easy to clean. Elastron Group offers a huge variety of durable fabrics with different finishes and for different needs. Their huge selection and high quality caught my attention several years ago. This company definitely has my attention and yours.
Artificial leather is a good solution for families with small children, due to its easy maintenance, but it also has its drawbacks. Know that during the warm months you will be uncomfortable sitting on your comfy sofa, and on the other hand, every sofa requires more special care.
Textile upholstery is more difficult to maintain, but it is more comfortable and soft to the touch. The most common question clients ask me is whether to choose a dark or light upholstery color. And again we come to the answer: It depends on the style of the interior.
I assume you know as well as everyone else that light colors get dirty more and dark colors last longer. My advice is to be guided only by your needs and preferences and by the feeling you want to experience while relaxing on your comfy sofa.
WHICH FILLING SHOULD WE CHOOSE?
Pay attention to the full, your comfy sofa will stay with you for a long time!
It’s almost impossible to know if a sofa will be comfortable if you don’t try it on. Being able to sit and even lie on the sofa before you buy it is one step closer to the perfect purchase. As with choosing a mattress, it’s a good idea to try it out beforehand.
Of course there are exceptions. In some countries, such as England, Spain or America, for example, it is almost impossible for manufacturers to maintain showrooms in all parts of the country. If you liked a certain model of sofa and this manufacturer does not have a showroom in your city, it is a good idea to call and help give you more comprehensive information about the type of full and its firmness.
And again we come to the moment when we have to ask ourselves the question – What do we need. Keep in mind that the main materials used in mind for full are: memory foam, foam and goose down. Each of these materials has its own characteristics, of course. Make an informed decision before joining the purchase.
As a lover of soft sitting and sleeping, I am very impressed by the English company Maker&Son. The first thing that caught my attention is the softness of sitting on the sofas and couches. As an interior designer and an absolute supporter of individual interior solutions with marked individuality, I like manufacturers working for the client. Maker&Son products are custom made with your choice of filling, fabric and size. The design shows no superfluous details, and all the upholstery is of incomparable quality. The feeling is like snuggling in a cloud – soft, clean, extremely pleasant. And their Mobile Showroom service has made them one of my favorite sofa manufacturers in the UK.

MORE SOFA TIPS
So, if you have gone around the shops in search of your comfy sofa and it is difficult to imagine how it will look in your home, the easiest way is to take in advance the size of the area where it will be placed and ask the consultant in the showroom for assistance. The consultants will help you make a good decision about the placement and dimensions of the sofa.
When you hear the word sofa, you probably always imagine a deep comfy sofa or a comfortable corner sofa. Whichever model you choose, make sure that it will fit perfectly into your living room, and the design can be easily broken up with cushions in different sizes and colors. The most important criteria by which a comfortable sofa is often chosen are size and firmness.
The two – seater sofa with compact dimensions, also called “Loveseat”, will envelop you with its cozy and comfortable shapes when you sit. This piece of furniture is in no way inferior to its larger sibling with 3 seats and is suitable for the whole family.
Of course, the practical corner sofa, which provides space for the whole family, remains at the top of the list for the most desirable comfortable sofa.
Adjust the sofa to the dimensions of the room. Pay attention to the other elements of the interior. We advise you to measure all sides carefully and leave enough clearance to pass through. Whether to place the sofa in the corner or in the middle of the room, decide for yourself or consult the manufacturer. Here is a quick and easy example of how to choose the perfect comfortable sofa: If the room is small, choose a small and compact sofa. Sofas with 2 or 3 seats are a good option. If the space is larger, consider a large sofa with a chaise lounge or a footstool. Whatever you choose, the best solution is to buy a custom-made sofa. This way, you will get the exact furniture you need.
